Chapter 5: Disney – On Sea and Land

Disney Differences: Children’s Facilities

One thing you won’t find on DCL ships is a casino. Part of the reason that Disney fares cost more is that they are not subsidized by gambling revenue, or as much bar revenue, as on other ships. Instead, the space that would have been used by a casino is instead dedicated to children’s areas. Almost an entire deck’s worth of space is used for children’s facilities.

The children’s facilities are incredible. While other cruise lines have nicely decorated Kid Clubs, DCL puts them all to shame. The Oceaneer Club is for children aged 3 to 7, and is themed in a Neverland/Pirate style. The centerpiece is a giant pirate ship that looks as if it is flying off into the sky. The ship features a rope net, a bridge, a steering wheel, a crow’s nest, a giant slide, and a cargo area for children to play.

Additionally, there is a Captain’s Closet’ area featuring a dress up trunk (for boys and girls), reading area, and computer games.

Bathrooms in the Oceaneer Club are plentiful. Instead of one bathroom for all children, there are separate boys’ and girls’ bathrooms, each with multiple stalls. The boys’ bathroom has a row of small urinals. Every stall has a potty seat available.
